Obviously I’d look for someone who is skilled in their field but as a massage therapist myself, I try to think of what I look for in my own massage therapist choices so I can bring them to my clients..
First, it’s always to have a friendly approachable person and I can say I enjoy some banter while I’m being massaged. Sometimes though and actually most often after the 1st session of getting to know someone, I just want to relax. I want to be able to lay there and really absorb what’s going on and being done to my body. I have had some very good therapists in the past and I’ve stopped going to them because the pressure of a conversation or simply they wouldn’t shut up the entire time.. hahaha
Second, I want someone who listens to what I say. Obviously the person I’m seeing is an expert in their field and knows what they are looking at and feeling in my body and I trust them. But if I say, I’d like some extra chest work done or can you please pay extra attention to whatever area I’m referring to, I’d like them to do honor that. I hate going in and spending my hard earned money for a massage for the Therapist. Some come in with their own agenda and don’t listen.
Finally, being on time. Whether I book an hour or an hour and a half, I’m paying good money for their services and always arrive at least 10-15 min before my appointment. So if they start late or finish a bit early and don’t give me my full time it drives me crazy and I might possibly never go back.
