Why I decided to become a Massage Therapist

Hmmm my very 1st blog post and what do I write…. Well I might as well share why I became a massage therapist. I could write about how I really understood the benefits of massage or how I wanted to help others live a healthy lifestyle etc etc. I really think my story starts backwards. I started with myself. I suffered and still do occasionally suffer from anxiety. I found from pretty early on that massaging my friends and boyfriend totally relaxed me. I would start going across their shoulders and find myself zoning out and really tuning into myself and what my hands where feeling. I really should have gone to school sooner but for one reason or another put it off. I’ll chalk it up to immaturity. :-p

in my mid 30s I was really tired of the desk job and work force and really wanted a change. I wanted to feel empowered about my life and I also was suffering from horrible anxiety. I signed up for a massage therapy degree. It was at school that I really started learning truly how amazing massage therapy is to ones wellness. Something as simple as an injury in your foot or ankle or knee ultimately affects your entire body because you are compensating for the pain. Little by little as time goes by what was once just knee pain starts hip pain, lower back pain, neck pain, headaches… You probably don’t even realize where or why these pains have started but ultimately it’s because your body has become out of balance. In my assessment class I could look at another student and see that she was crooked and her upper body was turned when standing facing forwards and find out that she had 3 kids and the divination was probably from her carrying children on her hip for so many years.

It’s amazing what we can see with the trained eye and how much we can impact peoples lives and quality of living by working with their body to bring them back into alignment. So really I started my massage journey for myself but ended with a profession that not only helped alleviate my anxiety but greatly helped those around me. Now that is a fulfilling career and I am so grateful to be where I am now.
