PTSD it’s real

So I’m really big on PTSD awareness and I just saw a post on Facebook that was really great!

So here’s the thing. PTSD is extremely frustrating to those who DON’T have it.

No it’s not business as usual, it hasn’t been for some time now, it may never be “business as usual” One never knows how or when it will manifest itself. People around you don’t understand why you just can’t move on, can’t let it go. They have no idea how it is to have your mind loop like a computer program over and over, why disturbing things in the news or on FB impact your sense of well being, your health, how you view the world or humanity. They don’t understand why you “dwell on something” as if I have a choice.

There is no place I can run or hide that is far enough from my own mind. Shut up and put up, move on. So I’ll keep quiet, keep all the feelings inside, don’t want to rock the boat after all. But it’s ok, my precious hounds know. They love me in me in spite of my memories and scars, they know I’m not faking it or being dramatic. They just love me.

I got this for Psychiatric Times About Massage benefits.

Bodywork, massage, and somatic therapies

“Massage controls pain severity through its effects on both physical and psychological symptoms. A significant reduction of PTSD symptoms has been seen in veterans after massage therapy. Moreover, findings suggest a reduction of substance abuse, anxiety, stress, depression, and dissociation. A community-based study with trauma survivors found significant improvement in the domains of interpersonal safety, interpersonal boundary setting, bodily sensation, and bodily shame in response to massage and energy-based therapies.“

In addition to this I’d like to add that last year I read an amazing book by Bessel Van Der Kolk M.D. Called The Body Keeps the Score. I found it extremely informative on trama, the reasons behind it, treatments etc. I was particularly interested in EMDR treatment And how well it works to treat PTSD. I think it’s worth a look.
