Bluegrass BBQ to End Homelessness

We had a wonderful day this past weekend, enjoying delicious food, beautiful weather, and fantastic live music. This past Saturday, I decided to take my family to the bluegrass BBQ festival here in concord put on by The Concord Coalition to End Homelessness. I’ve been trying to be more active in the community even if I don’t feel it’s enough or have enough time. Every little bit counts. We completely lucked out on the weather for the festival. It’s been a stormy and wet summer, but this day was clear, not humid in the upper 70s to low 80s with a nice breeze. The fact that it’s been wet, I think, actually made the pond at White Park in Concord extra pretty with an abundance of green Lilly pads in one corner and a pretty fountain, plus all the green lush grass and greenery. We got there right at noon since we didn’t order food ahead of the event; I wanted to make sure we got there before they possibly ran out of my favorite, beef brisket sandwich 🤤.
I also got there early because I hate dealing with parking. So we found a spot right in the parking lot, the band was already set up and playing, and the bbq smells were intoxicating. We purchased our meals, and I ran into Rev Kate and her husband from our church St Paul’s. She was filling people’s meal orders. I should have known she would be volunteering for such an event. The woman is a marvel. Once we got our meals, we walked across the little bridge a spread a blanket under a tree for our delicious BBQ picnic cooked by Rock House BBQ. Did I mention how much I love brisket? Well, this one certainly didn’t disappoint. We stay there eating our lunch, enjoying the beautiful weather, the lively music, and the scenery. I was surprised the kids wanted to sit for so long and attribute it to the lovely atmosphere. We did eventually get up and headed over to the playground, which was quite impressive. I’m from the Salem NH/Haverhill MA area, and it reminded me of the field of dreams playground in Salem w lots of bridges and cubbies to walk and crawl through, all made out of wood, oh and plenty of slides, although those weren’t wood 😂, imagine all the splinters you would get in your rear. It’s a place that inspires a child’s imagination—what a great park right in the middle of the capital city. I certainly wouldn’t mind living close to it.
In all, it was a delightful day. I hope they have it again next year.
